Contemporary Dance Wyoming (CDW) is the resident professional modern dance company at Dancers' Workshop. Under the direction of Artistic Director Babs Case, CDW's modern and postmodern repertoire combines dance with visual arts and the spoken word. Dancers work in collaboration with musicians and performers from other disciplines to diversify and enrich their process and product. Visually stimulating, highly athletic and innovative repertoire has provided local professional dancers performance opportunities in our community and throughout the Western region.

Plan to be spellbound by Contemporary Dance Wyoming. Dancers' Workshop proudly presents a collaborative concert featuring original works from a diverse and exciting group of choreographers. Each newly envisioned work is created with a commitment to experimenting with movement, group dynamic, and and thematic concepts in a unique way. This June's annual concert includes works by DW Artistic Director Babs Case and CDW Rehearsal Director Francesca Romo in collaboration with the dancers. Guest choreographers Daniel Staaf and Sarah Stanley will share the program, and guest musician Leif Routman will accompany some pieces with an original score.

As the resident professional modern dance company at Dancers’ Workshop, the Company pours their heart and soul into their innovative mix of repertoire. The creation of new work is a long, arduous albeit beautiful process. The Company members spend endless hours envisioning, sculpting and rehearsing for their annual performances.

Contemporary Dance Wyoming summer performances are supported in part by grants from Center of Wonder and the Wyoming Arts Council.

Babs Case, Artistic Director
Babs Case is artistic director of Dancers’ Workshop in Jackson, Wyoming.  She has performed, choreographed, and taught modern dance throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America. She attributes her multidisciplinary approach to dance to her professional affiliations with the Harry Partch Foundation and Company, Richard Landry of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and Lincoln Center Institute and Obie award winning actor Bob Berky. She was the founding director of The Center for the Arts in Stuart, FL for 12 years.  Babs is a past beneficiary of National Endowment for the Arts funding and a two-time recipient of both the Florida and Wyoming Fellowship Awards for Choreography.  In 1992, she was awarded an Indo-American Research Fulbright fellowship to study dance, theatre and visual arts in India. As an educator, Babs has taught at universities throughout the U.S. and offers multidisciplinary residencies in schools and workshops for at-risk youth. In 1999, she moved to Wyoming and formed Wyoming’s first modern dance company, Contemporary Dance Wyoming, which tours regionally performing lecture demonstrations in schools and formal concerts for the public.  Most recently her contributions to the arts were recognized by receiving the Cultural Council of Jackson Hole Award for Creativity in 2009, and by receiving the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award for 2013.

Francesca Romo, CDW Rehearsal Director
Francesca Romo is a dancer, a choreographer and the Rehearsal Director for CDW. Born in London, England, Francesca trained at The Royal Ballet School as well as London Contemporary Dance School. After a 1-year apprenticeship with Richard Alston Dance Company, she formally joined the Company from 2003–2006 and fell in love with the U.S. after a 6-week American tour. Shortly after, Francesca moved to the U.S. and co-founded NYC-based Gallim Dance. She has toured, created and set Gallim's work nationally and internationally. Francesca is a certified Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® instructor and currently teaches at Jackson Hole Gyrotonic®.
