CONTEMPORARY DANCE WYOMING
Contemporary Dance Wyoming gets Up Close at this year’s annual concert, June 29 and 30. Artistic Director Babs Case and company members will co-create contemporary pieces performed in groupings of 1, 2 and 3 dancers. The title of the evening refers to the arrangement of the performance space – the audience will be seated on the stage rather than in theater seats offering the viewers a more intimate vantage point of the dancers. Contemporary Dance Wyoming’s annual June Concert showcases their artistry, athleticism and creativity, combining contemporary modern dance styles with visual arts.
July 7, 8 & 9
Dancers’ Workshop, in collaboration with the Jackson Hole Land Trust, presents choreographer and performance artist Ann Carlson in an outdoor performance spectacle, Doggie Hamlet, weaving dance, music, visual and theatrical elements with aspects from competitive sheep herding trials. Performed by four dancers, one boy, one American Sign Language interpreter, local musicians, two herding dogs and a flock of 30 sheep, Doggie Hamlet explores instinct, sentience, attachment, and loss, and is a beautiful and dreamlike spectacle weaving instinct, mystery, and movement into an unusual performance event through story, motion, site and stillness.

BILL T. JONES/ARNIE ZANE COMPANY
Analogy/Ambros: The Emigrant
MacArthur Genius Award and National Medal of Arts recipient, Bill T. Jones and his company present the World Premiere of Analogy/Ambros: The Emigrant. Jones continues his exploration of how text, storytelling and movement pull and push against each other in this evocative narrative that strives to suggest how a traumatic experience can go underground in the psyche of an individual and direct consciously and unconsciously the course of that individual’s life. Ambros is the final installment of Analogy: A Trilogy – a series of works that explore the myriad battles we fight, especially the ones within ourselves.
Diavolo brings Jackson Hole a little something for everyone, with equal parts Cirque du Soleil, stunning choreography and architecture in motion, celebrating the solar eclipse. Using dance to explore the relationship between the human body and its architectural environment, Diavolo creates visceral and awe-inspiring works that reveal how we are affected emotionally, physically and socially by the spaces we inhabit.
