Youth/Teen Classes
Kinder Creative Movement Classes are designed for young children for the purpose of enabling them to master the basic locomotor skills including walking, running, hopping, jumping, rolling, crawling, skipping, sliding, galloping and leaping. It is through creative movement and combining these locomotors to make simple dances that students are introduced to the basic concepts of dance: body/action, space, body awareness, rhythm, coordination, balance and social skills. KinderSteps is for students three years old by September 1st. KinderDance is for students four years old by September 1st. KinderTech is for students five years old by September 1st.
Introduction to Technique(Introtech) is a gradual transition from the creative movement curriculum into technique classes. Students continue to build on the basic concepts of dance while learning the fundamental elements of ballet and modern dance technique. Introduction to Technique is for students six years old by September 1st.
Pre-Ballet is a class devoted to establishing the basic vocabulary and fundamental elements of classical ballet technique. Students learn the five positions of the arms and feet while learning the basic alignment of the body. This class provides the foundation for all further areas of dance training like ballet, modern, jazz and pointe. Pre-Ballet is for students seven years old by September 1st or older.
Ballet training builds strength, flexibility and core stability. Students study the codified movements and vocabulary of the art of ballet. Our ballet classes offer a progressive study of classical ballet technique, with a contemporary ballet influence at the advanced levels. A student’s placement is determined by the number of years of past dance training, ability and mental/physical readiness. Ballet 1 students must be eight years old by September 1st or older.
Pointe is an advanced progression of ballet technique. Pointe work is for advanced ballet students who have spent a number of years developing their classical ballet training. Students are placed en pointe by the recommendation of their instructor.
Tap is an American folk form distinguished by percussive footwork that marks rhythmic patterns on the floor. Tap dance improves motor skills, coordination and develops an understanding of timing and rhythm. Beginning Tap students must be eight years old by September 1st or in Level 1 classes.
Jazz is a fast-paced, fun movement class, which draws from its African roots. Jazz incorporates body isolations, stretching and strengthening and is accompanied by contemporary music. A student’s placement is determined by the number of years of past dance training, ability and mental/physical readiness. Previous ballet experience is not required but strongly recommended in conjunction with this class. Beginning Jazz
students must be nine years old by September 1st or placed in Level 2 classes.
Modern technique is movement exploration using concepts including weight and gravity with an emphasis on the spine. Like ballet, modern dance builds strength, flexibility and core stability. Modern dance is also an avenue for self-expression through improvisational explorations. A student’s placement is determined by the number of years of past dance training, ability and mental/physical readiness. Modern 1 students must be eight years old by September 1st or older.
Hip Hop is the class for you if you want to learn some moves to bring to dance parties. Hip Hop originated in the black and Latin ghettos of New York City and Los Angeles and draws from the Afro-American dance vocabulary. Our dynamic Hip Hop class provided students with the latest cutting edge jazz, Hip Hop and street choreography. Dancers should expect to receive fast-paced progressions and choreography. You’ll be amazed at your inner diva or homeboy!
