Whether cherishing those who mean so much to us,
or reflecting on the absence of what we love to do the most,
or trying new things or new ways we never thought of before,
in our efforts to just put one foot in front of the other to make it all work and stay sane...
this year will be unforgettable.
Today we share an unexpected and compelling collaboration… contemporary Artists working together for their take on these unprecedented times.
Dutch National Ballet…. is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Over the past 59 years, the Dutch National Ballet has evolved into one of the world's foremost ballet companies, with a unique and wide repertoire. With around 80 dancers from all over the world and a tradition of innovation, the company plays a leading role in Dutch cultural life and beyond.
G-Star RAW… also based in Amsterdam, designed the Tutu for the concept of the time in which we now live… socially distanced by government directive, for the health and safety of ourselves and others. G-Star RAW constructed the Tutu in all denim, which is emblematic of their brand. For 31 years, the military inspired clothing company has used denim to develop ready to wear apparel for all genders.
Most recently, G-Star RAW publicly made a commitment to be one of the most sustainable denim brands on the planet. In 2016, they partnered with Plastic Soup Foundation to stop the use of microfibers in clothing. “A fleece releases an incredible 1 million microfibers every time it is washed. If you imagine that every day a couple of billion people around the world wash their clothing and that almost every item of clothing contains plastic nowadays, you can easily see why it is imperative to deal with this cause of the plastic soup immediately. G-Star RAW is the first fashion brand that recognizes and supports the need for innovation.” This is the making of the impressive, diameter of 3 meters*, G-Star RAW TuTu for the Safe Distance Ballet with Dutch National Ballet this year.
*Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization approved
And this is G-Star RAW and Dutch National Ballet showcasing the culmination of their unique collaboration: the universal ‘new reality’, social distancing, visualized through Art. Safe Distance Ballet choreography was inspired by the empty theaters, Artists who don’t have a stage and the movement of each individual finding their way in this new normal. To make Art together… our socially distanced society still moves through each Artistic expression: music (DJ Joris Voorn), dance (Dutch National Ballet), design (G-Star RAW) and production (The Family Amsterdam).
We encourage all types of Artists to look more closely… to develop opportunities… to keep reaching out to one another… to create… stay safe… and survive. Thank you to all types of Art.
