“ I continue to be interested in using the human body to investigate non-human worlds…”

When Moses Pendleton, the superstar co-founder of Pilobolus and dance maker extraordinaire, was a wee lad, one of his jobs on the family dairy farm was to feed the calves a nutritious milk supplement.

The name of the supplement?

Momix.

Known internationally for presenting works of astounding inventiveness and physical beauty, MOMIX is a company of dancer-illusionists founded and directed by Moses Pendleton.

Moses Pendleton (born March 28, 1949) choreographer and dancer formed MOMIX in 1981 as an offshoot of Pilobolus, which he had co-founded while a senior at Dartmouth College in 1971.

Each production focuses not only on the beauty of the human form, but also the beauty of nature, music, scenography, and life itself. MOMIX productions are carefully crafted to assimilate a multitude of various elements in each and every show.

Pendleton combines his muscularly sculpted dancers with unique costumes and props, sets them amongst artfully created lighting and light effects, and finally completes everything with a personally selected diverse musical score, ranging from Vivaldi to New Age to birdsong. MOMIX is a company that thrills an audience of all ages because of its visual creativity.

In February of 2015, Dancers’ Workshop (DW) presented MOMIX at The Center Theater. Below is an excerpt from their 2015 performance, Botanica,

and a sneak peek of their new work, Alice, which we hope to present to you in 2022.

Presenting at DW is one way we share our love of movement, while continuing to educate our students and audience members about the vast art form of dance and its many styles.

We are so looking forward to seeing dance and you live this summer!

Until next Sunday!
